This is how I made my large roof star.

Starting with a 6m length of reinforcing rod 8mm, cut into 6 1m lengths. When laid out on the ground in the classic shape line up as per image 1.

Weld together at all points and cross points. I also welded 2 10mm rods to the bottom (see image 2) to secure it to the chimney of the house.
I then wrapped 10m of clear rope light around it, which went 3 times around. Use white cable ties to secure rope light to frame.
